BBQQ Food planning thread
« on: 05, July, 2015, 20:48:28 »
This is now a BBQQ food planning thread.

From the looks of it it seems that we will have 20 attendees for this years BBQQ making us able to enter Mythic BBQQ.
To maximize our odds for survival we will be needing buff food and with 20 ppl it might turn out rather messy if we make it up on the go.
So here is my suggestion:
I plan and buy all the necessary meatstuff and bring.
Someone else takes the responsibility for charcoal and or firewood and last we make some kind of salad or something together on somehow.

My plan is something along the lines of:
Friday night: Sausages
Saturday lunch: Chicken - I will see if I can get my hands on equipment to bbq whole chickens. In that case I will aim for always having at least one chicken over the fire for the rest of the day.
Saturday dinner: Some kind of meat. Depends on what kind of animal and part there of I find in the store in enough quantities. Probably some kind of cow part.

Does this sound reasonable?

Hold your buy gun. We kinda already have some food for you guys...we need to coordinate this first.
5kg ribs
40x90gram burgers.
Planned on getting some more meat to.
Wild game for stew on friday.
Planning on making lots of home made potato salad.
Breakfast/Lunch is still in limbo.
There will be lots of cake, but please bring more  :orcglee:

In general we thought we should try to keep it as low cost as possible as a lot of people are on a tight travel budget?
But open for more advanced suggestions!

Ok. So what do you got, or rather what is it that you don't got at the moment?

Won't go shopping until Thursday so lots of time for coordination.

Jello Shots! (Zuleyka and I will make them ^^ , we know were the only ones who like them but still their fun guys!)

Possibly cake (you cant stop me).

I can bake some bread we can eat for breakfast? Maybe bring some butter as I've heard that sometimes does not exist in Norway?

If you don't have burger buns, I can bake some of that too.

Cake, bread and burger buns sounds awesome! We do have butter now, its usually around christmas time we have butter shortages due to all the baking :)

On a side note: Don't know if you're still a vegetarian, but I have veggie burgers and soy sausages too (I don't eat much meat myself, only wild game and some ecological meat).

since im bad at the whole bring stuff thing (im also lugging a thing for Zuleyka) i was hoping i could simply be "boring" and bankroll stuff since i am fortunate to have a disposable income and im willing to share (escpecially for the good cause of a BBQQ) :D

I'll toss in some baked goods as well.

Maybe tortillas and some chilli sauce so I can satisfy my Mexican nationalism? Tortillas go with everything after all, mmm rib tacos.... *drool*  :undeadlove:

We should definitely bake the buns. It's cheaper, it's tastier, and it's reasonably entertaining as long as you have company while doing it. We should have more than enough people who can bake available.

You may want to post the intended recipe for planning purposes, though. And also because I've been looking for a decent hamburger bun recipe.

I got some Masa Harina if you need it to make trotillas (think its this one: http://www.bobsredmill.com/golden-masa-harina-corn-flour.html). Was planning on making tortillas myself one day but never got around to it.

I have 2 excellent hamburger bun recipes... I figured Id bake them at home and bring them (baking tomorrow that is... ) when are we eating them? perhaps I should just bring ingredients?

My Pinterest for bread and such

Sanzul if you have pinterest you can look for me there and my bread and waffles (i think the board is still called that has the 2 best burger bun recipes on it ever! :P )

I also have a veggie burger book that provides a few recipes for burger buns.

On a side note Sparkle, I am sort of veggie, I'm what we call Sthlms veggie... meaning i don't eat red meat... I used to be full on no meat (milk and eggs only) then I started eating fish and just like a few weeks ago i started eating poultry. So i think veggie still applies to the bbqq food  :)  I have some great recipes for veggie burgers too, with chickpeas or blackbeans omnomnom.
